Accomodations – Although the valley holds a small community, it offers a wide variety of lodging. Check out our host venue American River Resort, serving us a delicious post ride dinner and offers tent camping (only $10/head), tent cabins, RV spaces and cabins.
Food – We will provide a continental breakfast at the Start, or consider visiting Sierra Rizing Cafe and Bakery at mile 1.3 for a full breakfast. Friendly aid stations along your route will feed you all day. Your Saturday post ride dinner on us, and local beers and wines will be sold by our not-for-profit partner Friends of El Dorado Trail.
Recreation – The life of the valley is given by the river, and no better way to see it than with American Whitewater Expeditions.
Check out the site that set the original 49ers rolling here long before us: Marshall Gold Discovery State Park Great hiking, running trails, interpretive exhibits, gold panning, and more. Within the park you will find the museum, reconstructed Sutter’s Mill, and the American River Conservancy’s Nature Center. These resources offer entertainment and enlightenment to the curious of all ages. The Conservancy has done a fantastic job of preserving many wild portions of the canyon providing extensive trails for runners, mountain bikers and equestrians.
Attractions – If strolling through quaint shops and cafes are more your style enjoy the ambiance of historic downtown Placerville. The Placerville Downtown Association keeps this historic district unique and real. Placerville has the most authentic shopping district in the area, with businesses that date back over 100 years such as Placerville Hardware, the oldest continuously operating hardware store west of the Mississippi. The post ride dinner will feature the musical talents of Jenn Rogar from 2:30 – 6:30 pm. Live music should also be available nearby at Gringos, and Marco’s Cafe.
Beverages – Enjoy high quality wines without the Napa/Sonoma crowds. We recommend Madrona Vineyards one of the finest of the nearly 40 member wineries of the El Dorado Winery Association. If all things brewed is your passion check out Jack Russell Bewery in Apple Hill and Placerville.
Parking – It is our intention that you leave your car at the valley accommodations you stay at Friday night, We will have plenty of free parking at American River Resort.
Community – As guests in this area we want to enjoy all it has to offer while minimizing negative impacts to the environment and our hosts.
